Meet Rab: The Village Birthworker, Woman Holding the Crown
Welcome to a space where tradition meets modern holistic care. As a Full Circle Birthworker, I am dedicated to guiding you and your family through the sacred journey of birth—from the early stages of pregnancy to labor and into the tender moments of postpartum. My role is to ensure you feel supported, informed, and empowered throughout this transformative time.
But my care extends beyond birthwork. I believe in nurturing the whole self, which is why I offer essential Self-Care Accessories designed to uplift our community. From Rab's Roots herbal blends grown on my own herbal farmstead in Hampton Roads, to handcrafted headwraps—what I lovingly call Crowns—I’m here to help you and your family embrace healthy habits, celebrate cultural heritage, and expand your village of support.
IIn partnership with the soil, I nurture medicinal plants to offer our community the traditional remedies we need. Through my Crown Boutique™, you’ll find headwraps and headbands crafted with respect and care, honoring the resilience and beauty of both women and men. My work with the Earth is an honor and a responsibility, rooted in a commitment to mutual respect rather than ownership.

Welcome to a space where the ancient and the modern converge—a sanctuary rooted in the wisdom of our ancestors and committed to the holistic care that has always been the foundation of true healing. As a Full Circle Birthworker, I carry forward the legacy of traditional birthkeepers—our elders, midwives, and healers—who were the heart of our communities long before industrialized medicine sought to undermine and dismantle these sacred practices.
The term "doula" was ascribed to us by those who, in their attempts to "civilize" what they could not understand, sought to study and disenfranchise our Indigenous ways. This word, borrowed from the Greek for "woman servant," does not fully capture the depth of what it means to be a traditional birthworker. Our practices—shared by the enslaved, freed people, and Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island—are far more than just support; they are the embodiment of holistic, non-clinical care that nurtures the body, mind, and spirit.
As a birthworker, I am here to provide unwavering support throughout your entire birthing journey. I provide non-clinical, emotional, physical, and educational support throughout your entire pregnancy journey. Whether you are just beginning or nearing your due date, I am here to be your steadfast advocate, your cheerleader, and your guide. My calling is to help you reclaim the power that has always been yours, to ensure you feel seen, supported, and celebrated at every step.
My journey as a Full Circle Birthworker is deeply rooted in these traditions. From my early days of babysitting as a teenager, I have felt called to work with children and families. I believe that every child can learn and that it truly takes a Village to raise and teach a child from birth. This philosophy guides my work as I strive to embrace and encourage healthy lifestyles for families and their communities. In 2017, I trained with the International Center for Traditional Childbearing (now the National Association to Advance Black Birth) to become a Full Circle Birthworker, with a focus on addressing and reducing infant and maternal mortality in the Black community.
My commitment to The Village extends beyond birthwork. I am nurturing an herbal farm in the Hampton Roads area to reconnect our community with traditional medicinal herbs, providing access to the healing resources that have become increasingly out of reach. These herbs, grown with care, are a cornerstone of the holistic healing practices I offer. Additionally, I craft Crowns—headwraps and headbands that honor our culture, heritage, and beauty—available through my Crown Boutique™. Together, we will celebrate your power, nurture your well-being, and uphold the traditions that have sustained our communities for generations.

As your support, I will provide you, the birthing person, and your Village, with as much information so that you can make the most informed decisions for your family. I am here to help you be firm in your goals. I will be a shoulder and ear while you gather yourself, because, let's be honest... emotions.
I invite you to my site to learn more about evidence-based best practices that might suit you and your family: from free birth to assisted, breastfeeding to bottled and supplement filled nutrition.
I am a proud alumnus of the Mecca: the illustrious Howard University, where I received a degree in Human Development: Early Childhood Education. I also received masters degrees in Public Policy and Educational Research from Georgia State University, Along with continuous birthwork training, I do social science research and policy work specializing promoting effective programs and services that encourage healthy early childhood development especially for Black communities and low income families. I focus on disparities due to income, race, and other socialized inequities. I believe that birthwork is another avenue, to pave a path to a kinder and inclusive world for future generations by listening and supporting birthing persons. Being invested in healthy starts, I also offer professional lactation services to all my clients interested, as well as as a separate service. I trained with Breastfeed Atlanta, LLC, to sit (and pass) the exam to become an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
In 2018, I be came a mom to a bouncing, bubbly boy. Through my own journey I see how necessary the support of a labor support person is; how make or break it can be to have someone call to check up on you or bring you a meal in the early postpartum weeks. I will work with you to have a safe, memorable, empowering experience, through the beautiful times as well as those that come tough.
I love visual and physical art: I do my fair share of painting and have also been doing pottery since high school. My love for being crafty and building with my hands crafting has grown The Village Birthwork Service wellness brand, leading me to open Wrapped by Rab, LLC, The Crown Boutique(TM) and other wellness accessories to come.
The highlight of my year starts in Spring as I watch the Creator work bringing new life to the vibrant hues of nature, and because that's when all of the festivals start! When outside opens back up, you can catch me at brunch, finding new nature trails to hike or playgrounds to enjoy.
As a Full Circle Doula we connect and agree to work together months before your delivery date. After we come up with your plan for delivery and prenatal lifestyle, we schedule visits to keep you on track as we are in constant contact to check on your overall wellbeing. I am there with you during delivery, being your advocate and cheerleader. After delivery I follow-up with you and baby through your mom's wellness postpartum visit. This includes helping you with recovery, around the house and with baby, during those early stages,
As a Labor Doula we connect and solidify your birthing plan at least in your third trimester advance of your due date. I coach and encourage you at least through your late prenatal stages, and fully support you through delivery. I will be there to help you in your delivery environment, through your first two weeks postpartum.
Maybe you have plenty of support for delivery, or you just delivered! You need some support those early weeks, as you rest and heal, while bonding with baby. You need a hand or a few, in the kitchen, with the kids, around the house. Let me be there for you!
I am here to help you with your breastfeeding/chestfeeding journey, should you need information and have any concerns, but are not looking for full postpartum support.
